The Avian Welfare Coalition is opposed to the breeding, mass-marketing, and selling of birds through pet stores. Because of the continuing exotic pet fashion, thousands and thousands of displaced captive parrots and other birds are now awaiting adoption at bird adoption and rescue organizations. While many stores have responded to public pressure to discontinue puppy and kitten sales in favor of sponsoring adoption days, few have responded to the increasing exotic animal homelessness problem.

The warm weather here in San Diego means that a veterinarian has to be prepared to work with a much wider range of pets. People that live in colder climates have to keep pets that can handle the lower temperatures but here a the San Diego veterinarians need to have knowledge of and experience with not only the more traditional pets, such as dogs, cats, fish and birds but also the more exotic types of pets.

Pet Works has been a BBB Member since 2000. Pet Works puppies and kittens come almost entirely from USDA licensed professional breeders of high quality in states that regulate and inspect the pet-breeding industry. The breeder's veterinarian inspects each animal before they arrive at our pet store in San Diego. Every effort is made to ensure quality in each and every pet for sale at Pet Works. NO, we DON'T EVER get puppies from "puppy mills" or "backyard breeders" .
